Blog Article Posted by Conservative Church Lobbyist Darrin Mitchell:

Currently, there is a little known U.S. House Concurrent Resolution known as H.CON.RES.13 which would would Reaffirm "In God We Trust" as the official motto of the United States and would support and encourage the public display of the national motto in all public buildings, public schools, and other government institutions.

A Concurrent Resolution is a symbolic resolution. The upside of a concurrent resolution (a legislative measure) is that it can be adopted by both the U.S. House of Representative and U.S. Senate and that it does not require the approval of the President of the United States. However, the downside is that this kind of resolution lacks the force of law and legally is non-binding. Knowing this, you may question why should I encourage my states Congressperson from my U.S. Congressional district to vote yes and Co-Sponsor H.CON.RES.13?

The answer can be found in the Bible in the book of Matthew, Chapter 10, verses 32-24 where Jesus said: “Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven. “Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword.”

H.CON.RES.13 can become a stepping stone for conservative Christian American citizens like yourself who are in the voting majority in the United States to make a public profession of their Christian faith. To learn how to do this I encourage you to take a direct lobbying lesson from three individuals from American history who choose to publicly profess their Christian faith and national patriotism through the symbol of the inscription or phrase: “In God We Trust.”

Lets review the following three testimonies from American history:
In September of 1814, during the bombardment and the Battle of Baltimore, Francis Scott Key was so moved and inspired by the valiant defense of Fort McHenry that he wrote the Star Spangled Banner (Now the National Anthem of the United States of America) and in the final final stanza made his public profession of his Christian faith when he declared "...And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust'."

In 1864, Salmon P. Chase, the U.S. Treasury Secretary under President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War wrote a letter that stated: “that no nation can be strong except in the strength of God, or safe except in His defense. The trust of our people in God should be declared on our national coins" Because of this one man’s profession of his faith to his President and fellow colleagues, “In God We Trust" has appeared on U.S. coins and currency for over 147 years.

In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower took the historic step of rallying the support of the American people to add the words “Under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance. Then, in 1956, he threw his full support and convinced both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to vote yes so he could sign into U.S. law the adoption of In God We Trust" as the official motto of the United States.

However, since 1962, secularists (who represent and make up less than 2% of the population of the United States) have made strong attempts to remove all Christian symbols from the public view. It makes one wonder why the Christian faith is constantly under attack by secularists. Why are they so threatened by public prayer, Bible reading, the posting of the Ten Commandments and the inscription or phrase: "In God We Trust." The answer is simple: conviction.

Hebrews 4:12-13 states: “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."

Knowing this what can you do? First, do the research and see if your Congressperson from your U.S. Congressional district has Co-Sponsored this Concurrent Resolution at: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d112:h.con.res.00013:

If they have, please send them a letter of thanks and then follow up with a phone call to let them know that you appreciate their stand to pass this pending resolution. However, if your Congressperson has not Co-Sponsored this Concurrent Resolution you need to contact them by letter, phone and or in person and let them know that as their constituent that you want them to vote yes on H.CON.RES.13.

If you are uncomfortable about contacting your states elected officials in the 112th U.S. Congress, please E-mail me at contact.darrin@darrinmitchell.com and lets discuss what we can do to help you to take this God given opportunity to make your vote and voice heard on H.CON.RES.13.

Don't underestimate the value of our nations public symbols. President Ronald Reagan in his second Inaugural address to the nation on January 21, 1985 said “In the sunset of their lives, Jefferson wrote: “It carries me back to the times when we were fellow laborers in the same cause, struggling for what is most valuable to man, his right to self government. Laboring always at the same oar, with some wave ever ahead threatening to overwhelm us, and yet passing harmless... we rode out the storm with heart and hand.” Well, with heart and hand, let us stand as one today: one people Under God determined that our future shall be worthy of our past."

As of today’s blog posting, 64 of 435 Congresspersons have stepped up to Co-Sponsor H.CON.RES.13 and reaffirm the inscription and phrase: “In God We Trust” as our national motto. We need the additional Co-Sponsorship of 154 Congresspersons to pass this resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives. Please mobilize your church congregation to join me in taking this God given opportunity to profess our Christian faith and through this process help reach our nation through our collective political witness and testimony by declaring together: "In God We Trust!”

Important Update: H.CON.RES.13 was passed in the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 by a vote of 396-9 with 2 voting present. On Wednesday, November 2, 2011 it was referred to Senate committee and was received in the Senate and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary, Please be sure to write your states U.S. Congress person and thank them for their vote if they voted yes. Now we need to take the next step and lobby our states U.S. Senators until we get a majority of 51 votes to pass H.CON.RES.13 RFS.
